The Requirements To Start The Cardiovascular Technologist Program

Cardiovascular technologists are essential in the allied health fields, performing noninvasive sonographic procedures to diagnose patients’ cardiac conditions. The Cardiovascular Technology Degree (CVT-AAS) at Eastern International College offers a great way to prepare for this rewarding career, but you’ll need to meet several key requirements before beginning classes. Ready to get started? Let’s take a look at what you need to know to begin your program of study at our Belleville or Jersey City, New Jersey campus.

What Do I Need To Enter The Cardiovascular Technologist Program?

The Cardiovascular Technology Program (CVT-AAS) is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). Upon graduation, you’ll demonstrate the critical thinking, ethical decision-making, and hands-on experience that are highly sought after in the job market. To ensure you’re prepared to excel in your studies, the program requires that all students achieve the following requirements:

Earn a High School Diploma or Equivalent Certification

To become eligible for enrollment in our cardiovascular technologist program, you must be a high school graduate or have received an equivalent certification. If you earned a high school education in the United States, our admissions team will ask for a copy of your diploma or transcript for review. Alternatively, if you received a State Equivalency Diploma (GED), we’ll request a copy of this transcript.

For aspiring students who received their secondary education outside the U.S., our admissions team will request an evaluation of your transcripts by an approved third-party company. These include organizations such as World Education Services, Educational Credential Evaluators, Inc., and others. Doing so ensures your accomplishments are fairly evaluated in comparison to students who receive a domestic diploma or equivalency.

Accuplacer Exam

We require all cardiovascular technologist program applicants to take the Accuplacer Exam at our Jersey City or Belleville, New Jersey campus during the application process. The program is very demanding, and this test allows us to determine whether your skills in English, writing, math and other subjects are suited to college-level courses.

All applicants for the Cardiovascular Technology degree program (CVT-AAS) are required to take the
Next-Generation Accuplacer placement tests in reading, sentence skills, and mathematics which is
administered at Eastern International College. Applicants who score lower than 244 in Reading and Writing
and lower than 260 in Mathematics must take and pass developmental English courses (Developmental
Reading or ENG 099, Developmental Writing or ENG 098), and Elementary Algebra (MAT 099) while
enrolled in the college.

In some cases, the Accuplacer Exam will be waived for students who meet certain criteria. Exam waivers are available for students who achieve:

Complete the Admissions Process

In addition to these requirements, all cardiovascular technologist program applicants must complete a personal statement essay. This essay provides another way for our Office of Admissions to evaluate your personal and educational qualifications when making acceptance decisions. Finally, all applicants are invited to their campus of choice for an interview and tour with an assigned admissions representative. After this meeting, you’ll receive an acceptance decision, and successful applicants will enroll in the cardiovascular technologist program.
