Dental Hygiene Clinic Services

In our teaching facility, all services are provided by Dental Hygiene students who have demonstrated competency in clinical services prior to being granted permission to treat patients. The students are directly supervised by licensed Dental Hygiene faculty and a licensed Dentist. These are some of the services offered based on the student and faculty assessments of your individual health needs and include:

  • Medical and dental history questionnaire and evaluation
  • Blood pressure screening
  • Extraoral and intraoral examination, oral cancer screening and risk assessment
  • Dental assessment(charting of teeth, conditions in mouth and cavity risk assessment)
  • Dental examination
  • Periodontal examination (measure of bone and gum tissue to evaluate supporting structures of teeth)
  • Dental radiographs (x-rays)
  • Dental prophylaxis (cleaning and polishing of teeth)
  • Fluoride treatment
  • Dental sealants
  • Mouth-guards and athletic-guards
  • Nutritional counseling (analyzing patient’s diet to optimize oral health and prevent decay)
  • Patient education on techniques and current products available
  • Education and referral for tobacco cessation
  • Placement of antimicrobial agents
  • Application of topical and local anesthesia if indicated to optimize patient comfort
